Tongue tie is a common problem that exists in the newborn. In medical terms, it is called Ankyloglossia. It is caused when the tissue that connects the bottom of the tongue to the gums is shorter than normal. This problem has been present since the time of the birth but often unrecognized in its early stages. In some cases, it may be hereditary, i.e. transferred from the father to the younger generation.
